On November 16th, 2016 Moncler has inaugurated its first American flagship store in the heart of New York City in the prestigious Madison Avenue, second boutique in town with the Prince Street, Soho space. In occasion of this event, Moncler has decided to pay homage to the Big Apple in its own famously creative style. This tribute has been expressed through a Special Collection designed by Thom Browne consisting of 28 iconic duvet jackets exclusively sold on the dedicated website. The individual jackets, all the same menswear model but different in details from each other, are being sold for charity benefitting Robin Hood, New York’s largest poverty-fighting organization.
The message of Moncler’s love and respect for the Big Apple continues in an intense short Musical Film by the celebrated New York Director Spike Lee. Its strong bright plot threads through five minutes of an extraordinary mix of fluid rhythms, the musicality of ska and funky echoes. The title of the Short Musical Film, starring Dancers Lil Buck, John Boogz and Damaris Lewis, is “Brave” and it comes from The Lead Song “Brave Suffering Beautiful”, from the Off-Broadway Musical “Total Bent” by Stew & Heidi Rodewald. Two distinct and unmistakable artistic visions, Spike Lee’s and Thom Browne’s, offer two unique and diverse ways of approaching the same theme.
During the flagship store opening the entire Moncler Special Collection designed by Thom Browne has been displayed. The collection features jackets, cashmere sweaters and other special items bearing the charm and strength symbolized by the American flag.
“What do you wanna know?” Nina Agdal asked us when we visited the Manhattan Kohl’s showroom to check out their new k/lab collection, which launched this week online and in a few select stores. Agdal was on hand with Hilary Rhoda to fill us in on the line of bomber jackets, maxi dresses, tops, etc., essentially a one-stop-shop for the millennial girl, a.k.a. their target customer. Here’s what the IMG stars told us: Every week k/lab will be “dropping” new looks, with the brand paying close attention to social media to determine the trendiest looks of the moment. “If you don’t get the piece that you want and it sells out, you can’t get it. You gotta get it while it’s hot,” Agdal explained. The fast fashion collection gets its own landing page online, separate social media accounts, and will be placed and promoted distinctly in stores. “Everything is from $28 to $78,” Rhoda said. “The price point is really good.” The girls were also sporting looks from k/lab: “I thought this dress was cute, sporty and funky at the same time, which is kind of me!” Agdal said about her starry navy dress, which she paired with sneakers. The new label is the invention of Kohl’s EVP of product development Arthur Lewis and vice president of trends Sofia Wacksman. The two came up with the idea in February (OF THIS YEAR!!) and you can see it in stores this month. Now that’s fast fashion.
